Whew! I don’t know about you but life is not what I thought it would be! I remember the fun stress free times at the beginning of adulthood. New love, new life, new world full of wonderful possibilities just waiting for me to take hold of. Fast forward 15 years and BOY IS LIFE HARD! Even as I type that in capital letters it STILL seems like an understatement! I’ve seen my share of joy and sorrow. I’ve had my times of plenty and times of want. It is harder now because it seems that this season of my life seems to be the one that is by far the hardest. I’m sure that in twenty years I’ll look back at these times through rose colored glasses and I won’t remember all the suffering and pain I’m enduring now. Financial hardship, marital struggles, loss, lack, emotional stress, physical pain, etc. Yeah, my book of trials is pretty thick right now, as I’m sure some of yours are too. It’s so easy to find ourself wondering “Where is God in the midst of this mess?”
“Why the heck did he leave me out here with all this chaos?”
I woke up this morning bitter and thinking that very thought. Trials of life were pressing down hard and I was tired and hadn’t been in my word like I should. Because of this negative thought that I awoke with I decided to bask in him and read His word and reset my mind. What God shared with me this morning was this…….it’s a quote I remembered from the movie The Shack. If you haven’t seen it you should!
BAM! POW! OUCH! OUCH AGAIN.
Let’s go back and read that again.
WHEN YOU COME TO THE PLACE WHERE ALL YOU SEE IS YOUR PAIN, YOU HAVE LOST SIGHT OF ME!
Let it resonate and simmer in your soul. How often do we do this gals? How often do we just completely lose sight of our father, our provision, our source? I know I do a lot more than I want to admit. I’ve come across a few verses that remind me of his goodness and his provision no matter what may be going on in my life.
“Though the fig tree does not bud and there are no grapes on the vines, though the olive crop fails and the fields produce no food, though there are no sheep in the pen and no cattle in the stalls, yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will be joyful in God my Savior. The Sovereign Lord is my strength; he makes my feet like the feet of a deer, he enables me to tread on the heights.”
Habakkuk 3:17-19 NIV
The Lord God is my strength my personal bravery and my invincible army. He makes my feet like hinds feet and will make me to walk not stand still in terror but to walk and make spiritual progress upon my high places of spiritual trouble, suffering, and responsibility! Habakkuk 3:19
What is your challenge today?
Taking care of aging parents
Taking care of special needs children
Loss of a job
Can’t find a job
Long term illness or physical disability
Loss of a loved one
Financial struggles pressing and weighing you down from every side
Feeing like you’re stuck in a place you don’t belong
Whatever the challenge he is our personal bravery. And when He is our strength and bravery, then He will make us WALK—-not freak out, but walk. And not only walk, but also make progress in our areas of trouble and suffering.
I saw this saying once on my Facebook feed and I ended up pinning it to my inspirational Pinterest page for days when I got low and couldn’t see the light anymore. Here it is. I just love this.
Take a look at that image. Look how deep those roots go. Look how many roots there are in that soil. Think of the time it took for those roots to grow and mature. Guess what? I bet it felt like a VERY LONG TIME! God showed me this yesterday. Sometimes life seems so hard that we feel like we just can’t go on. We feel like we can’t take one more step. However, it’s in those times that there is work being done in us below the surface that no one can see. It’s long. It’s hard. It’s frustrating. We want out. We think we are too weak. We think we aren’t enough. We think we can’t take another step. We just want a better life.
My friend, I want to encourage you. Don’t miss what’s happening in these times. We can get so focused on the negative and the frustrating things going on around us that we can’t even see the work that is being done below the surface…..the work that, though ugly now, will bring us to a place of peace and beauty.
So If this is you today just breathe. Let me say that again, just breathe! He is your bravery! Let Him guide you to take the next step and not only take the next step but help you to better understand what’s going on through this pain. If you look at Him the pain will seem smaller!
